UM COMPLIANCE MISSION STATEMENT The Compliance Office of the University of Miami
Department of Intercollegiate Athletics exists to protect the
institution through its efforts aimed at ensuring institutional control.
The Compliance Office strives to maximize
opportunity for the constituents of the Department of Intercollegiate
Athletics while maintaining an uncompromising commitment to the NCAA Rules.
The Compliance Office shall be dedicated to
ethical decision making with the highest standard of quality and
professionalism while maintaining a fair balance between
student-athletes and athletic department staff.
 
David Reed
Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance

David Reed is entering his first year at the University of Miami as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. In his current position, Reed oversees the Compliance office and is the lead person on all NCAA Compliance initiatives. He came to Miami from Marshall University where he had previously served as Associate Athletic Director for Compliance for the past three and a half years. At Marshall, Reed was responsible for all facets of NCAA Compliance and created the R2MU (Return to Marshall University) student-athlete degree completion program which produced over a dozen college graduates in its first year of inception. He also served in the capacity of Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations during his tenure at Marshall. Prior to Marshall, Reed served as Compliance Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, Reed was responsible for all NCAA rules interpretations, compliance monitoring systems, NCAA waivers, rules education, and served as the department liaison to university general counsel with regard to NCAA Compliance matters. Reed has also previously served as Assistant Compliance Director and Compliance Graduate Assistant at Marshall, along with having worked as a Compliance Intern at the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University. A native of Beckley, W.Va., Reed earned a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies from Mountain State University in 1998. He went on to receive his Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Marshall in 1999. Reed graduated from the Sports Management Institute and 1A Athletic Director's Institute and is also a member of the National Association of Athletics Compliance Coordinators (NAACC). Reed is married to the former Angela Bowman of Gallipolis, OH.
Jamie Israel
Associate Compliance Director

Jamie is responsible for all aspects of compliance related to recruiting, eligibility and playing and practice seasons. He also provides rules education and coordinates the UM agent program. Before coming to UM, Jamie was a professor of Sports and Business Law at Florida Atlantic University and served as legal counsel in the area of sports marketing. He is a graduate of the University of Miami and earned a Juris Doctor from Emory University.
Stephen Clacherty
Assistant Compliance Director

Steve is responsible for monitoring financial aid, housing, and meal plans. He is also in charge of coordinating the UM drug testing program, and overseeing student-athlete employment. Prior to joining the staff at UM, Steve worked in the Compliance Office at Seton Hall and Syracuse University. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Cortland.
Alyssa Krop
Compliance Intern

Alyssa Krop joined the University of Miami Compliance Office in January, 2008. Her primary areas of focus include financial aid and rules education. Alyssa is a graduate student at the University of Connecticut. She will graduate with a Masters Degree in Sport Management and Sociology in May 2008. While at UCONN, Alyssa worked as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Ticket Office in addition to interning in Compliance. After graduating from Brandeis University with a degree in Politics in 2004, Alyssa worked as a development and special events professional in Washington, DC
Eric Paz
Compliance Intern

Erik Paz joined the University of Miami Compliance staff in June 2007. He works primarily with financial aid and assists with the various monitoring efforts.

Erik is a rising senior at the University of Miami pursuing a degree in Sport Administration with minors in Business and History. He is very active on campus, he serves as the President of the Association of Commuter Students, and is also involved in the First-Year Review Committee. A native of Miami, Paz graduated from Southwest Miami Senior High School. Following graduation Paz plans pursuing his Masters degree in Sports Administration.

Claire Zovko
Compliance Intern

Claire Zovko joined the University of Miami Compliance staff in August 2007. She assists the Compliance staff with financial aid, recruiting, and monitoring efforts.

Claire is a second year law student at the University Of Miami School Of Law. She is an active member of the Sports and Entertainment Society, Vice President of Christian Legal Society, and a UM student ambassador. Claire graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Mathematics. She played collegiate basketball and has coached high school basketball for the last seven summers.

Deborah Foley
Academics/Compliance Assistant

Debbie assists the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance with all administrative tasks and duties as well as assisting the Athletic Academic Services Staff. She acts as a liaison to the Business Office and coordinates technology support. Debbie is also a student at the University of Miami. She is married and the mother of three children.
