Walter Camp Award
The Walter Camp Award goes to the nation's most outstanding college football player. While no single person can claim credit for the innovation of football, no one contributed more to the game's development than Walter Camp.

Through Camp's many innovations, football changed from a rugby-like game into a unique sport. Camp was one of the first football coaches, compiling a 79-5-2 record at Yale and Stanford, and was considered the game's authority, electing an annual All-America team.
Gino Torretta

Recognized as the "Father of American Football", Walter Camp was one of the giants of football in the US. It was he who sired the game as it is played in the United States, the game that evolved from rugby as it was played in England.

Gino Torretta, 1992
In 1992, Gino Torretta was named Player of the Year. Torretta still ranks as Miami's all-time leader with 7,690 passing yards, 555 completions and 7,722 yards in total offense. He also had 123 consecutive pass attempts without an interception. Torretta had 310 first-place votes compared to Faulk's 164 and Hearst's 140.

Vinny Testaverde, 1986
Miami quarterback became Miami's first Walter Camp Award winner in 1986. Testaverde threw for 2,557 yards and 26 touchdowns with only nine interceptions while leading Miami to an undefeated regular season and the nation's number one ranking entering the Fiesta Bowl.
