The University of Miami Baseball program has long been considered one of the premier baseball programs in the nation. Four national championships, including recently in 1999 and 2001, 19 College World Series appearances, and 31 NCAA Regional selections are proof that when it comes to collegiate baseball, no one does it better than the Hurricanes.
In 1971, the University had a dream of building a state-of-the-art college baseball stadium. With the help of University supporters, the stadium became a reality. On February 16, 173, Miami defeated Florida State 5-1 in the first ever game at Mark Light Field.
Thirty years later, Mark Light Field is now in need of renovations. While "The Light" was once the envy of other schools, time and technology have combined to downplay our former facility advantages. The University has retained HOK, a Kansas City based architecture firm, to significantly upgrade our baseball facilities. Enhancements are planned throughout the stadium, and include improvements to seating areas, fan services and team facilities.

Once the envy of all college baseball programs, a major renovation is needed to have a stadium that attracts the fans and student-athletes necessary to keep our baseball program the best in the nation. To date, over $5 million has been raised towards a major renovation, led by the generosity of New York Yankees All-Star shortstop Alex Rodriguez. Approximately $3 million more is needed before our championship baseball team once again competes in a championship-caliber facility.
