Available Athletic Endowments
It is with the continued support from individuals that the University of Miami Athletic Department can continue to excel in both the classroom and on the playing fields. The Athletic Department awards a number of Endowment Scholarships to its Student-Athletes.

Full $500,000 Athletic Endowments:
Ralph R. Bailey Scholarship Endowment Fund
This endowment was established in 1975 in memory of Ralph R. Bailey, and is intended to provide scholarships for Broward County residents, regardless of race, color or creed.
Hurricane Baseball Scholarship Endowment
Oliver & Spencer Berens Football Quarterback Position Endowment
This endowment was created in 2003 by Fred and Marilyn Berens in honor of their two sons, Oliver and Spencer. The endowment has been designated to be given each year to a deserving quarterback on the University of Miami football team.
Myron & Gladys Greentree Intercollegiate Athletics Endowment
Endowment established by an initial gift from Myron Greentree, and intended to benefit intercollegiate athletics at the University of Miami, specifically for Football and Baseball scholarships.
Football Scholarship Quasi Endowment
Endowment established with recommendation and approval by the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees to transfer funds from an anonymous trust to this scholarship endowment account. Income generated from this quasi endowment is to be used to fund athletic scholarships for student-athletes who demonstrate both academic strength and prowess in the sport of football.
Mary B. Hecht Quasi Endowment Fund
Quasi endowment established in the name of Mary B. Hecht, via the proceeds from the sale of the Belle Meade Island real estate donated by Mrs. Hecht.
Arthur H. Hertz Endowed Athletic Scholarship
Arthur H. Hertz's created a bequest in 2004 which has been designated to benefit the Athletics Department through the creation of an Athletic Endowed Scholarship. Arthur Hertz is a Trustee of the University of Miami.
Ken Hunt Football Running Back Position Endowment Scholarship
This endowment was created in 2004 by Ken Hunt, a former running back for the Miami Hurricanes. Mr. Hunt was a student-athlete for the University of Miami from 1961-63 and created this endowed scholarship to be given each year to a deserving Hurricanes running back.
Walt Kichefski Endowed Football Scholarship
Athletic scholarship to be awarded on an annual basis to a deserving University of Miami football student-athlete, displaying athletic and academic merit, and regardless of race, creed, or color. Recipient is to be selected by football coaching staff prior to the final game of the season. Endowment was established by a "community of friends" in memory of Walt Kichefski, former UM Athletic Director, football student-athlete and 1941 graduate.
Shane McGee Memorial Football Endowment Fund
In 2004, the McGee family created this endowment in memory of their son, Shane McGee, an avid Hurricanes fan. The endowment will be given each year to a member of the Hurricane football team.
Scott Ridge Scholarship Fund
Scott and Karen Ridge committed a $1 million planned gift to the University of Miami Athletic Endowment Program. This endowment will be given to a member of the Hurricane football team.
Alex Rodriguez Endowed Baseball Scholarship
This scholarship endowment was established as part of a $3.9 million gift to the University of Miami by Alex Rodriguez in August 2002. The endowment is intended to benefit a member of the Boys and Girls Club who plans on attending the University of Miami. Alex is a five time Major League Baseball All-Star and was named the 2002 Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player by the Sporting News. Alex is an alumnus of Westminster Christian High School in Miami and had committed to play baseball for the Hurricanes. Although he turned professional, signing with the Seattle Mariners, before he ever took the field as a Hurricane, he plans to spend summer pursuing a degree at the University of Miami.
E. Roe Stamps Baseball Pitcher Endowed Scholarship Fund
Endowment created in 2004 by E. Roe Stamps, a University of Miami Trustee. The recipient for this endowment each year is a deserving pitcher on the University of Miami baseball team.
Carol and George E. Williamson II Endowed Athletic Scholarship
Carol and Ed Williamson created a bequest in 2004 which has been designated to benefit the Athletics Department through the creation of an Athletic Endowed Scholarship. Ed Williamson is a Trustee of the University of Miami.

Jerome Brown Memorial Football Scholarship Endowment
Endowment restricted for an annual football scholarship for an undergraduate student of athletic & academic merit, regardless of race, creed or color. Scholarship recipient will be awarded a trophy designated as "The Jerome Brown Trophy" at an annual banquet to be held by the Athletics Department. Scholarship endowment honors the memory of Jerome Brown, former University of Miami football player who died on 6/25/92.
Henry and Florence Burnett Tennis Scholarship Endowment
This endowment was established on December 7, 1999 with a gift from Henry and Florence Burnett. The purpose of this endowment is to provide scholarship funding for a deserving University of Miami student-athlete who is a member of the men's tennis team, is in good academic standing and seeks to better himself through the athletic and academic experience gained through this scholarship. The goal of this endowment is to one day fully fund a scholarship for the University of Miami Men's Tennis Program. The Scholarship recipient will be selected annually by the donor in conjunction with the University of Miami Director of Athletics.
Jimmy Burns Golf Endowed Scholarship
Endowment established in 1990 by the Jimmy Burns Scholarship Foundation. Fund named for Jimmy Burns, former sports editor of the Miami Herald for 23 years, with the interest help fund a scholarship for the University of Miami Golf Program.
Adam C. Clark Athletic Endowed Scholarship
Endowment named in honor of Adam C. Clark, former University of Miami Basketball student-athlete and 1993 alumnus who passed away on 8/27/95. Family and friends of Adam were the initial contributors to the endowment fund, and the only restriction is that it be used to fund athletic scholarships
Dauer Athletics Quasi Endowment
In 1993 the Dauer Family made a major gift to the University of Miami, of which a large portion was designated for the athletic department's use. Per the request of the athletic director 40% of the gift was to be placed in a quasi endowment account for benefit of the Athletics Department.
Elizabeth Dee Scholarship Endowment Fund
Endowment named in memory of Elizabeth Dee, wife of current University of Miami Athletics Director Paul Dee. This fund was established in March of 2000 as a quasi-endowment for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. A native of Youngstown, Ohio and an alumnus of Coral Gables High School and the University of Florida, Elizabeth Dee was a great supporter of the arts. She spent over 20 years teaching art in both Palm Beach and Miami-Dade public schools.
Eldredge Athletic Scholarship Endowment Fund
Endowment contingent upon execution of a charitable uni-trust. Alfred Eldredge, Jr. died October 28, 2000, he is survived by his wife Diane. Alfred is a 1959 alumnus of the University of Miami.
Ron Fraser Baseball Scholarship Endowment
Initial donor was Wendell E. Ray, 1975 University of Miami alumnus, who underwrote the UM Baseball Celebrity Banquet to establish this endowment. Income from this endowment is to be used to fund athletic scholarships for UM Baseball student-athletes.
Doris Hart Women's Tennis Scholarship Endowment
Started with a charitable lead annuity trust from Marie Eaton and named the, "Julian F. Eaton Trust for University of Miami Doris Hart Tennis Scholarship." Doris Hart attended the University of Miami from 1946-1948, then went on to capture the women's singles crown at Wimbledon in 1951 and the U.S. Open in 1954 and 1955. The purpose of this endowment is to provide a scholarship for an undergraduate student of athletic and academic merit, regardless of race, creed or color, as chosen by the women's tennis coach and the athletic director.
Raymond R. Konopka, Jr. Football Scholarship Endowment
Endowment established by Mrs. Louise Konopka in the memory of her son Raymond R. Konopka, Jr., a 1984 University of Miami alumnus who died on August 16, 1993. This scholarship is intended for a deserving University of Miami football student-athlete.
Daniel and Diane Marienthal Touchdown Scholarship Fund
McComas/Connley Athletic Scholarship Endowment
Endowment established by Eleanor McComas in memory/honor of her husband, D. Keith McComas, and his business partner, John H. Connley. The purpose of this endowment is to provided scholarship funding for a deserving University of Miami student-athlete who is in good academic standing and seeks to better him or herself through the athletic and academic experience gained through this scholarship. The goal of this endowment is to one day fully fund a scholarship for the University of Miami Athletics Department. The Scholarship recipient will be selected annually by the donor in conjunction with the University of Miami Director of Athletics.
Martha H. & Richard W. McEwen Endowment Fund
Endowment that contributes to both the Hurricane Club's Student Athlete Scholarship Fund as well as the President's Associates Fund. Richard McEwen was formerly the Chairman of the Board for Burdines department store, and also was voted the 1983 Miami News Business Leader of the Year.
Floyd Osterman Athletic Scholarship Endowment
Endowment established by contributions from Mr. and Mrs. Tolly and Elise Vinik. Endowment funds have been designated for use for athletic scholarships. Named for Floyd Osterman, former University of Miami Trustee.
Christopher Plumer Memorial Scholarship Endowment
Endowment begun by friends of Christopher Plumer with a major gift to be used to establish an athletic scholarship in memory of Christopher Plumer.
Margaret F. Porter Athletic Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established through a portion of Margaret F. Porter's estate, agreed by her family to be set aside for endowment of scholarships for students who show athletic promise at the University of Miami. Mrs. Porter died 11/26/81.
Neil Schiff Tennis Scholarship
Endowment established by an initial gift from Barbara Schiff, widow of Neil, 1948 University of Miami alumnus and former Chair of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. Original purpose was to provide tennis scholarships to an undergraduate woman student-athlete, but agreement was later amended to encompass both male and female tennis student-athletes.
Martin N. Schnell Olympic Sports Scholarship
Rob Souza Memorial Athletic Scholarship Endowment Fund
Endowment established in memory by friends of Rob Souza, a former University of Miami Baseball student-athlete (1982-1984) who died January 7, 1985. This scholarship is intended to award $2,500 to a needy undergraduate student of athletic and academic merit as chosen by his teammates. This student-athlete must be a member of the Baseball team and not on full athletic scholarship.
Richard E. Thiel Athletic Scholarship Fund
This is a trust of which a sixth of the value shall be used as follows:
"The principal of this bequest shall be invested and reinvested in such assets, at such time and in such manner as the University of Miami shall determine and the income there from shall be used for the establishment of such athletic scholarships as the Athletic Department shall determine, this fund shall be known as the Richard E. Thiel Athletic Scholarship Fund."
Armer E. White Athletic Scholarship
Endowment started by a contribution from Mr. Armer E. White, with restrictions to provide athletic scholarships via the Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund. Armer has a long and rich history of philanthropy to the University of Miami, and although he only attended a few classes at U.M., he considers himself to be an alumnus. Armer became known as the largest seller of acreage in the state's history.
