One of college football's most gifted receivers, Miami junior split end Andre Johnson is already established as one of the most impressive pass catchers in Hurricanes history, a history that includes such greats as Michael Irvin, Lamar Thomas, Horace Copeland, Kevin Williams, Randal Hill, Brian Blades and Eddie Brown.

A player who evokes comparisons to Irvin, known as "The Playmaker", Johnson uses a rare combination of size and speed to come up big when the game is on the line and the Hurricanes are in the spotlight. His memorable performance in the 2002 Rose Bowl, in which he caught seven passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns on the way to earning Co-Most Valuable Player honors, implanted him on the national scene.

Now in his third season as the starter at split end, Johnson continues to enhance his image as one of the nation's premier receivers. Johnson is a candidate for the Fred Biletnikoff Award as college football's outstanding receiver and could be primed to snare All-America honors this season. Miami's best deep threat, the Miami native led the Hurricanes in receiving yards in 2001 on the way to UM's fifth national championship.
