Bryant McKinnie

Enters his senior season regarded by many observers as the top offensive lineman in college football…a contender for the Outland Award (top offensive lineman) and the Lombardi Trophy (best interior lineman)…a preseason Playboy All-American, along with teammate Edward Reed…one of three Hurricanes included on the Lombardi Award Preseason Watch List (along with Joaquin Gonzalez and Jeremy Shockey)...

Bryant McKinnie
McKinnie's physical gifts and intelligence have combined to make him one of the finest offensive linemen in all of college football...shows improvement with each game...a major reason for the tremendous development of UM's 2000 offensive line from a question mark into, perhaps, the team's finest unit...one of Miami's largest players, his impressive arm length makes it difficult for opposing linemen to get their hands on him...has surprising quickness and agility for a player his size...

A former member of his high school band (played the bass drum), McKinnie has played only five seasons of competitive football...credits childhood activities such as step aerobics and wrestling for his amazing agility and balance...one of the team's quietest and most easygoing players, in addition to being one of the smartest...in addition to his outstanding ability as a pass protector, he has made tremendous strides as a run blocker…a major factor in Miami's allowing only three quarterback sacks credited to the offensive line during the 2000 season...combines with right tackle Joaquin Gonzalez to comprise college football's finest tackle duo…tremendous athlete who ran the 400 meters for his high school track team.

Was awarded the Offensive Lineman of the Year Award by the Miami coaching staff...blossomed into a force for the Hurricanes in his first season of play at UM...did not allow a quarterback sack during the 2000 season...named a mid-season All-American by CNNSI.com, McKinnie earned First-Team All-America acclaim by The Football News after the season...a First-Team All-BIG EAST selection by the league's coaches, The Football News, and College Football News...

Earned national acclaim after an impressive performance in Miami's 27-24 win over Florida State in which he held FSU's Jamal Reynolds sackless on the day through 38 pass attempts...played a major role in Miami's pass protection on a line that allowed a shockingly low eight sacks in 340 pass plays in the regular season...also helped pave the way for a 1,000-yard season by tailback James Jackson, just the fifth time a Miami back has surpassed the 1,000-yard plateau...was part of a line that allowed the Miami offense to lead the BIG EAST and rank among the national leaders in total offense, averaging 460.8 yards per game.
