A former high school track
star who set several Florida state high school records before coming to Miami…recruited
by most schools to play defensive back, yet Miami presented the opportunity to
play tailback.

starting tailback James Jackson…rushed for 485 yards and two touchdowns in a reserve
role at tailback in just eight games...broke three plays of 50 or more yards,
running plays of 82 and 61 yards and a pass play of 59 yards...opened the season
with 133 yards rushing on just nine carries, including an 82-yard touchdown run,
in the win over McNeese State...produced two big plays in the comeback at Washington,
a 61-yard rush and a 59-yard catch-and-run on a screen pass...
Finished the Washington

six times for 29 yards, including a 17-yard scoring run, in addition to catching
two passes for 20 yards in the 47-10 win at West Virginia...broke three metatarsal
bones in his right foot in practice, causing him to miss the next three games
and casting doubt over his availability for the remainder of the season...returned
to practice three weeks later and rushed for 86 yards on 14 carries against Louisiana
Tech...had just seven yards on six carries in the win over Virginia Tech...
Rushed 12 times for 31 yards
