Q. You turned down academic scholarships at a handful of Ivy League schools to
walk-on at Miami, why?
A. I bleed green and orange. I've seen this program go from the bottom to the
top.
I've been here for the great days and been here for a couple bad days and I just
wanted to be part of this team and the brotherhood and family atmosphere that
is here.

Celebrates 5th National Title
It snowed in Miami on a glorious Friday afternoon. White snow. Green snow. Orange
snow. Thousands of pounds of confetti pouring from windows and rooftops of the
buildings lining downtown Flagler Street, blanketing the University of Miami football
players with love. The Hurricanes -- 2001 national champions -- were celebrated
by about 10,000 fans in UM's first ticker-tape parade...

a perfect season by overwhelming Nebraska 37-14 in the 88th Rose Bowl on Thursday

Academic Heisman
University of Miami senior offensive tackle Joaquin Gonzalez was named winner
of the "Academic Heisman," the HealthSouth Draddy Award, in a ceremony honoring
16 national scholar-athletes at the National Football Foundation's 44th Annual
Awards dinner Tuesday night at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The HealthSouth Draddy
Award, known as the "Academic Heisman," is the ultimate honor a college football
scholar-athlete...

First Team All-American
Gonzalez, who already has earned First-Team acclaim from the Football Writers
Association for the second consecutive season, was a semifinalist for the Lombardi
Award this season and will set a new Miami record for career starts at the Rose
Bowl with his 49th. The Miami native, one of the school's most accomplished scholar-athletes,
has allowed only two sacks in his collegiate career...

Miami and Florida each placed three players on the 2001 All-America football team,
announced Wednesday by the Football Writers Association of America. The top-ranked
