San Diego, Calif. - All three crews of the University of Miami rowing team, that included the varsity 8 crew, JV 8, and 3rd varsity 8 crew will compete in Sunday's Petite finals after turning in fourth place finishes respectively Saturday morning at the 34th annual San Diego Crew Classic on the waters of Mission Bay in San Diego, Calif.
In the Jessop-Whittier Cup, the Hurricanes' Varsity 8 squad with rowers Meghan Leydecker (Coxswain)
Laura Cordner, Sarah Conlon, Laura Coltman, Kelly Amsler, Caitlin Augustin, Emy Huntsman, Karen Wiley, and Natasha Lejer finished with a time of 6:58.67 behind No. 11 Stanford, eighteenth ranked Washington, and No. 1 ranked Cal. Tomorrow the Varsity 8 squad will race in the Jessop-Whittier Cup Petite with hopes of bringing home the trophy as they take on Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson, Purdue, Loyola, and San Diego State University. Racing time is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. PT.
Miami's JV 8 squad will compete in Sunday's Women's JV Petite after finishing today's race with a time of 7:09.88 in the women's JV A race behind the boats of USC, Oregon State, and Cal. The rowers consisted of Jordan Louie (Coxswain), Marleena Eyre, Molly Wilson, Marenda Chamberlin, Bethany Krawec, Karalyn Van Aken, Olivia Arkell, Hannah McKay, and Valerie Webb. All nine rowers will get back into action tomorrow at 8:50 a.m. PT against San Diego State University, conference opponent Clemson, Kansas State, Loyola, and University of San Diego.
UM's 3rd Varsity 8 Crew, finished fourth place with a time of 8:22.19 with rowers Jessica Cruz (Coxswain), Stacey Kerr, Sarah Stocks, Julianne Parker, Rachael Sporko, Courtney Guy, Molly Thornton, Sarah Greyer, and Charlotte Hillery. The Hurricanes finished behind Cal, San Diego State University and U.C. Irvine Alumnae, UCSB, and Chapman advancing to Sunday's Women's Open Petite. Tomorrow's race, beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT will include opponents from St. Mary's, U.C. Irvine Alumnae, Colorado, Stanford, and University of San Diego.
