Coral Gables, Fla. -
Miami swimming and diving jumped into action on Saturday morning, enjoying a season-opening split with Florida Gulf Coast (W, 140-103) and Florida State (L, 99-143) at the Norman Whitten Pool in Coral Gables, Fla.
Delayed for the first 25 minutes due to storms in the Coral Gables area, heavy rains would not deter the Hurricanes from their season and home-opener. A great recruiting class by both head coach Christie Shefchunas (swimming) and Randy Ableman (diving) brought a great crowd out to the Whitten Pool despite the weather.

Christie Shefchunas. "This is the first meet of the year, and already they're so far ahead of where they were last year."
The Hurricane divers, men and women, looked great despite the rain on the springboards.
Reuben Ross took second place in the men's 1m springboard with a score of 344.35 while FSU's Terry Horner (350.75) took first place. J.J. Kinzbach finished fifth (282.55).

Highly-touted freshman Kelci Bryant was second with 295.65, and last year's NCAA Champion Brittany Viola was third (275.60).
