FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - University of Miami sophomore diver Reuben Ross earned All-American status with a sixth place finish of 375.85 in the one-meter finals Thursday night at the 2008 Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the King County Aquatic Center.

Ross, who also placed sixth in Thursday afternoon's preliminary session, was in a group of seven divers in a close battle for the top spot in the finals. Georgia's Chris Colwill prevailed in the end with a score of 407.25, with the next six divers all scoring above 360.00.

UM's other diver competing this weekend, freshman J.J. Kinzbach, missed the cut for the finals after placing 30th with a mark of 241.80 during the prelims.

The remainder of the championships -- hosted by the University of Washington -- will feature the men's three-meter event on Friday and the platform on Saturday. Prelims on Friday and Saturday are scheduled for 5 p.m. EST each day with the finals taking place during the evening sessions beginning at 10 p.m. EST.

This past weekend in Columbus, Ohio, UM's lone competing women's diver - sophomore Brittany Viola - became just the third woman in school history to win an NCAA Championship after scoring a 362.60 in the platform finals. Viola would later be named 2008 NCAA Tri-Diver of the Year after her impressive showing throughout the weekend.
