NEW ORLEANS, La. - Kristy Whyte and Nene Kamate of the University of Miami's women's track and field team have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Track and Field team.

Whyte a junior Exercise Physiology major from Miami Lakes, advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where she finished with the ninth-best time of 23.91.

Kamate, who graduated in May with a degree in Communications/International Relations from Jamaica, N.Y., competed in the 4x100 relay along with Whyte and posted a first round time of 44.44 seconds.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.

In all, a record total of 531 student-athletes representing 146 Division I institutions composed the women's 2009 All-Academic Team. The Atlantic Coast Conference is represented by 36 student-athletes on team, while the Pac-10 led all conferences with 56 selections
