BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
One of the nation's top pitchers and arguably the most heralded freshman in Miami history after his remarkable 2008 rookie campaign ... Won several freshman of the year honors, in addition to earning all-america honors by a number of publications ... Returns as UM's ace for the 2009 season after going 11-0 with a 2.72 ERA last year ... Despite having only played one season, has logged more career innings (112.2) than any active pitcher on the 2009 roster ... Owned team's best strikeout-to-walk ratio in 2008, having struck out 117 batters to just 18 walks (6.5-to-1) ... Was a member of the USA Baseball National Team in 2008 ... Drafted in the 14th round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers.
FRESHMAN SEASON - 2008
•Finished the year with the best record ever by a UM freshman (11-0)
•Led team in wins (11), games started (17), innings pitched (112.2) and strikeouts (117)
•Recorded eight of his 11 wins against Atlantic Coast Conference teams
•Allowed two runs or less in 10 of 17 starts
•Owned staff's third-lowest ERA (2.62)
•Longest '08 outing: 8.0 innings (Virginia - 4/25, Clemson - 5/21)
•Recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts twice (Clemson - 4/4, UVa - 4/25)
•Best outing of the season came against Virginia (4/25), when he allowed no runs on just two hits while striking out 11 and walking just one in eight innings of work
•Owned team's best strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.5-to-1)
•Held opponents to a .223 batting average against him
•Allowed five or fewer hits in over half of his starts (9-of-17)
•Miami won 14 of the 17 games he started (ND in 6-2 loss vs. Florida - 3/2, ND in 6-3 loss vs. Arizona - 6/6, ND in 7-4 loss vs. Georgia - 6/14)
•Walked just four batters in his last eight appearances (47 2/3 innings) for an average of just 0.76 walks per nine innings
•Tossed eight innings of shutout ball against Clemson in the ACC Tournament, allowing just four hits while striking out 10 to earn his 11th win of the season
•Tossed 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight in earning a no-decision against Missouri in the Coral Gables Regional (5/31)
•Earned a no decision after allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings against Arizona in game one of the Coral Gables Super Regional
•Made first career relief appearance in the third game of the Super Regional, holding the Wildcats scoreless in one inning of work
•His most effective month came in May, when he went 4-0 with a 2.11 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 34 innings of work
•Allowed just four home runs all season (one per 28.2 IP)
•Did not commit and error in 27 chances
•Nearly half (7-of-15) of attempted base-stealers against him were unsuccessful
PREP CAREER
•Played for Tom Duffin at Monsignor Pace
