AS A MEMBER OF THE 1998 U.S. NATIONAL TEAM:
Played in 40 games, including 33 starts in competitions culminating
with the World Champion-ships in Italy ... hit .286 with 10 doubles, a
team-high seven triples and three home runs ... drove in 16 runs ... posted
a slugging percentage of .534 on 71 total bases ... drew a team-best 21
walks ... led team with nine stolen bases on 11 attempts ... hit a three-run
home run to right-center field to give the U.S. an 8-0 lead en route to
a 15-1 win over Korea on July 1 at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona
... went two-for-three with a double, triple and three runs scored in USA's
14-8 win over Korea on June 29 in Tucson.
AS A SOPHOMORE IN 1998
Named first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers
Association, a second-team All-American by Baseball Weekly and a third-team
All-American by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, The Sporting News
and the American Baseball Coaches Association... named a second-team Summer
All-American by Baseball America...started all 63 games at shortstop...one
of only two players, along with Aubrey Huff, on Hurricane roster to play
in every game...recorded a hit in 22 of last 25 games, including a 17-game
hit streak (4/17-5/21), the longest for a Hurricane this season ... had
a 13-game hit streak to start the year (1/28-2/22)...led team in hits (97),
stolen bases (46), runs scored (87), games played (63), games started (63),
at bats (240), total plate apperances (300), hit-by-pitch (seven), multiple-hit
games (31) and assists (173)...in his career, has been hit-by-pitch 27
times, tied with Luis ÒWichoÓ Hernandez (1991-94) for the
school record...stolen base total of 46 is tied for fourth on the UM single-season
stolen base chart...career stolen base total of 87 ranks tied for 10th
on UM all-time list. In Regular Season: In three games at Jacksonville
(5/8-10), Hill went 10-15 (.667) with four home runs, six RBI, nine runs
scored, two doubles and three stolen bases. Hill led off game one of the
series with a home run to center field that tied Miami's team record for
home runs in a season (96). On Saturday, Hill hit two home runs for the
first time in his career. On Sunday, Hill led off the game with his fourth
home run of the series. On both Friday and Saturday, Hill was a triple
away from hitting for the cycle...is hitting .414 (24-58) with six home
runs, four doubles, 20 runs scored, 16 RBI and 46 total bases (.793 SLG%)
over 14 games in the month of May. At 1998 Atlantic I Regional: Started
all five games at shortstop...had a home run and three RBI in opener vs.
Bowling Green...hit a home run and had season-high four RBI in elimination
game vs. Texas Tech. At 1998 College World Series: Started all three games
at shortstop...went 2-10 (.200) with one RBI.
AS A FRESHMAN IN 1997
Collegiate Baseball second-team Freshman All-American... appeared in
68 games starting in 67 contests...set UM record with 20 hit-by-pitch breaking
the record of Mat Erwin (16, 1984)... ranked second on team with 41 stolen
bases in 54 attempts...stolen base total was ninth-best single season total
in school history and the second-highest total by a player in his initial
year at UM... ranked second on team with 46 walks...had on-base percentage
of .447...had 20 multiple-hit games, including four three-hit games...
had 13 multiple-RBI games...led team with 176 assists. In Regular Season:
Had a season-high four RBI vs. Toledo (3/22)...had a 14-game hit streak
(3/8-29) and had a five-game RBI streak (4/25-5/2)...went three-for-six
with two doubles, a home run and two runs scored at South Florida (3/24)...hit
first collegiate home run vs. Illinois (3/15)...went three-for-six with
two doubles, two runs scored and a RBI vs. South Alabama (2/2). At 1997
Atlantic Regional: Started all six of UM's games at second base...drew
four walks and four hit-by-pitch...led team with six stolen bases in seven
attempts. At 1997 College World Series: Started all four of Miami's games
at second base...had two stolen bases in two attempts...went 3-7 with two
runs scored, two RBI, one double and a stolen base in opener vs. UCLA (5/31)...recorded
stolen base and walk vs. Alabama (6/6).
HIGH SCHOOL
Leland High School...coached by Paul Ugenti. Senior Year, 1996: Was
named first-team All-American, All-County and All-League...named area's
Senior of the Year and Best Defensive Player...hit .435 with six home runs
and 25 RBI...had 20 stolen bases...team was California Division I Champions.
