big asset to the Miami program ... can throw any of his five pitches
for strikes ... attacks hitters with a deadly breaking ball ... knows how

over 20 pounds of muscle weight and increased his velocity considerable

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 1998
Maintained role as Miami's primary set-up man out of the bullpen used
typically in the seventh and eighth innings...made 32 appearances, all
in relief...was a part of four of Miami's eight shutouts...had a 3.8:1
strikeout-to-walk ratio...averaged 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings (46
strikeouts over 40.0 innings). In Regular Season: Pitched two perfect innings
to earn win at Florida International (4/28)...earned first career victory
and combined for shutout, pitching 2.0 shutout innings in UM's 1-0 over
North Carolina (3/20). At 1998 Atlantic I Regional: Made two appearances,
allowing one run on four hits in 3.2 innings (2.45 ERA)...shut out South
Carolina in two innings of work while recording three strikeouts. At 1998
College World Series: Pitched two shutouts innings allowing just one hit
while striking out three and walking one in 6-3 loss to Long Beach (6/2)...pitched
final 1/3 inning retiring the only batter he faced in 8-2 loss to Arizona
State (5/31).
AS A FRESHMAN IN 1997
Appeared in 13 games, all in relief. In Regular Season: Struck out
a career-high three batters in 1.2 innings of work in Miami's 13-8 win
over Florida Atlantic (4/30)...pitched a career-high two innings at South
Florida (3/24).At 1997 Atlantic Regional: Pitched 4.2 innings of relief
giving up three runs on nine hits in closing out Miami's 10-3 loss to Arizona
State (5/24). At 1997 College World Series: Was on the travel roster, but
did not see action.
HIGH SCHOOL
Brandon...three-year letter-winner...coached by Greg Parris. Senior
Year, 1996: Selected Mizuno All-American...first-team All-Conference, All-State
and All-District...All-Suncoast team...won the Tony Saladino Award given
to the top player in Hillsborough County...went 11-0 with a 0.99 ERA and
90 strikeouts...most valuable player of the Tony Saladino Tournament...pitched
a perfect game against Robinson High School...team was runner-up in district.
