At Miami
Brendan Katin became known for his mamoth home runs last season, but the senior will be looking for more consistency in 2005 ... after a strong summer the burly outfield and backup catcher will be looking for a breakout season ... has excellent speed from first to third base and a strong throwing arm in the outfield ... uses all fields and displays power to all fields ... hit .283 with six home runs and 24 RBI as a junior college transfer in 2004 ... a very good athlete, Katin will be counted on as an everyday outfielder for the Hurricanes ... played in the Valley league during the summer with the Covington Lumberjacks ... hit six home runs playing for new assistant coach Joe Mercadante.

Brendan Katin added instant power to the Hurricane lineup in 2004 ... hit six home runs and drove in 24 RBI in just 99 at bats ... hit .283 on the year with a .392 on-base percentage ... slugged .545 with six doubles and a triple to go along with his six home runs ... had his first hit as a Hurricane on Feb. 15 vs. Florida ... went 1 for 3 with a double in a win over Tennessee on Feb 20 ... singled in a run and eventually scored in his only at-bat vs. Tennessee Feb. 22 ... hit his first career home run vs. FIU in Feb. 27 ... followed up on Feb. 28 with a 3-for-5 outing where he had four RBI, four runs scored, and was a single short of hitting for the cycle ... had his first multi-home run game (2) vs. Elon on March 6 ... along with his two home runs he went 3 for 4 with a career-high six RBI and four runs scored on March 6 vs. Elon ... set a career mark with three stolen bases vs. Rutgers on March 12 ... went into a 3-for-22 slump from March 12 to March 28 ... broke out of midseason slump going 2 for 4 vs. Florida State on April 9 ... went 1 for 3 with an RBI and run scored vs. Florida State on April 10 ... had one hit and one RBI vs. Florida State on April 16 ... went 3 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI vs. Virginia April 24 ... had a single and an RBI vs. Coastal Carolina on May 1 ... singled home a run against Jacksonville on May 8 ... struck out a career-high three times against Ball State on May 21. 2004 Coral Gables Regional: Katin went 1 for 1 with a with his 6th double of the sesaon against North Carolina State on June 5 ... also saw action in a 0 for 1 performance on June 6 against Florida Atlantic in the regional championship game. 2004 College World Series: Katin was 2 for 2 with two runs scored in a reserve role against South Carolina on June 22.
Lake Sumter CC
Caught for head coach Mike Matulia at Lake Sumter Community College ... was a Mid-Florida All-Conference selection following his sophomore season ... was also picked to the Mid-Florida Academic All-Conference team.
Sophomore (2003): Katin batted .365 during his sophomore season with seven home runs. Freshman (2002): Hit .315 as a freshman and led the Lakers with 12 home runs.
Ft. Myers High School
Played outfield and caught for head coach Jimmy Roberts at Ft. Myers High School. Senior (2001): Hit .320 with six home runs for Ft. Myers ... started at catcher. Junior (2000): Started in the outfield as a junior and hit .360 with four home runs.
