CORAL GABLES, Fla. - - Dennis Raben homered twice and freshman lefty Eric Erickson limited Fordham to one run on five hits in a season-high eight innings to lead No. 12 Miami to an 8-1 win over the Rams in the second game of their three game series at Mark Light Field Saturday night. Mark Sobolewski finished 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Hurricanes who improved to 8-5 and won their second game of the series.
Erickson struck out five to move to 2-1 on the season. Danny Gil pitched a scoreless ninth inning sealing the win for Miami.
Cory Riordan (0-1) gave up four runs on six hits and struck out four in five innings for Fordham. Five different Rams had one hit. John Mollicone scored the lone run for the Rams with his second home run of the series. He finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Raben put Miami ahead 2-0 when he blasted his first home run of the season. He sent the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the third over the right field wall. Dave DiNatale also scored giving UM the early lead. Kevin Diego's RBI single later scored Richard O'Brien to make it, 3-0.
Miami would go ahead, 4-0, when Roger Tomas scored from third base on a fielder's choice. Sobolewski struck out swinging on a 3-2 count and Yonder Alonso was thrown out while trying to steal second. That allowed Tomas to score.
Raben's second home run of the game put the Hurricanes ahead, 5-0, in the bottom of the sixth.
Mollicone hit his second home run of the series for Fordham getting the Rams within, 5-1, in the top of the seventh.

The Hurricanes tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tomas doubled in Jonathan Weislow for a 7-1 Hurricane lead. Miami's last run came when Dave DiNatale was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 8-1.
Tomas, Alonso, DiNatale, Blake Tekotte and Diego each finished with one hit.
Miami and Fordham wrap up their series Sunday at 1 p.m. Junior left-hander Manny Miguelez (0-0, 4.60 ERA) will face Fordham RHP Tom Davis (0-0, 2.70 ERA).
