Final Stats

TAMPA (www.hurricanesports.com) - South Florida snapped the University of Miami's 11-game winning streak, 7-2, on Tuesday night in front of 1,521 fans at Red McEwen Field.

USF's freshman right-handed Casey Hudspeth kept the Hurricanes off balance all night, pitching 7.2 innings, allowing no runs on only three hits while striking out six and walking two.

Brian Barton paced UM's six-hit attack, collecting three singles and a RBI.

Miami starter Vince Bongiovanni took the loss pitching five innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He walked three Bulls and struck out six. With the loss, Miami falls to 15-4 on the season, while USF improves to 14-5.

South Florida got to Bongiovanni in the fifth inning with a two-RBI triple to straight away center field from Devin Ivany. The Bulls extended the lead to 4-0 as Ivany raced home on Bongiovanni's third wild pitch of the night.

With two on and two outs in the seventh inning, South Florida's center fielder Jeremy Bellotti snagged Erick San Pedro's drive deep in right-center field, slamming into the wall after making the catch.

USF jumped on top early with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ivany in the first inning. Mike Macaluso doubled to lead off the game for the Bulls and came around to score on Ivany fly ball to right field.

The Bulls tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two-RBI double by left fielder Travis Brown and another RBI double off the bat of Macaluso.

The Hurricanes and Bulls wrap up the series with a 5 p.m. contest on Wednesday, March 17, at Red McEwen Field in Tampa.
