CORAL GABLES, Fla. - - Junior lefty Manny Miguelez struck out a season-high seven batters and sophomore right fielder Dennis Raben homered for the sxith time in the last eight games as Miami knocked off No. 24 Stetson, 7-3, Wednesday night at Mark Light Field. Sophomore first baseman Yonder Alonso blasted his 12th home run of the season for the Hurricanes (26-17), who extended their winning streak to four games.

Raben finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. He has hit home runs in five consecutive home games and now has 11 on the season. Gus Menendez and Jemile Weeks each had two hits.

Miguelez (1-2) matched a season-long seven inning performance. He gave up three runs on six hits. Raben and Danny Gil combined to pitch two scoreless innings.

Stetson starter Corey Kluber (8-1) suffered his first loss as he allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings. He struck out four. Shane Jordan and Braedyn Pruitt each had two hits for the Hatters (32-12).

Miami extended its lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh. Raben doubled in Blake Tekotte to make it, 6-3. Raben then scored on Weeks' RBI single through the left side.

The Hurricanes broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead, 5-3. Weeks hit a leadoff single. He scored on Mark Sobolewski's double off the left field wall to make it, 4-3. O'Brien's sacrifice fly brought in Sobolewski.

Miami tied the game, 3-3, on Alonso's 12th home run of the season. His two-run blast scored Roger Tomas, who hit a one-out single.

 

 

Raben led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run down the right field line putting Miami ahead, 1-0.

The Hatters tied the game, 1-1, in the top of the third when Shane Jordan dropped in a bloop double in shallow center field. He scored when Braedyn Pruitt chopped a single down the left field line which scored Jordan. Two batters later, Stetson took a 3-1 lead on Jeremy Cruz's two-run single.

Tomas, Alonso, Sobolewski and Richard O'Brien each had one hit. Sobolewski extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his 13th double.

Miami returns to action this weekend when the Hurricanes host No. 2 Florida State Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series. Game times are 7 p.m., 7 p.m. and 12 p.m. Sunday's game was moved up one hour to noon.
