Hernandez (7-0) struck out six of the first seven UVa batters to open the game. He allowed just two hits and walked only one, facing just 26 batters on the night before giving way to Carlos Gutierrez in the ninth inning. Gutierrez recorded his 10th save of the season, allowing one hit while striking out one in the ninth to secure the shutout.

Tekotte and Terdolsavich each went 2-for-3. Greg Miclat, David Adams and John Barr each had one hit for the Cavaliers.
Terdoslavich led off the bottom of the sixth with a double down the left field line. After McAnaney recorded back-to-back strikeouts, Tekotte singled to right bringing home Terdoslavich for the game winner.
The Hurricanes loaded the bases in the bottom half of the eighth but a double-play groundout ended UM's threat to add to its lead.
Game two of the three game set is slated for 7 p.m and will be televised live by CSS Saturday. Sophomore lefty Eric Erickson (6-0, 3.28 ERA) will face UVa RHP Jacob Thompson (5-2, 2.98 ERA).
