Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) - - (AP) - Cesar Carrillo pitched a four-hitter to give Miami its 21st trip to the College World Series.
The victory gave Miami a super regional sweep over the Gators, who have been
eliminated by the Hurricanes three straight seasons.
It will be the third trip to Omaha in the last four years for Miami (50-11).
Carrillo (11-0) surrendered his only run in the first inning on Ben
Harrison's RBI single. He settled down after that, holding Florida (43-23) to
just two hits the rest of the way while striking out a career-high nine in his
first complete game.
Florida starter Connor Falkenbach (10-7) cruised until giving up a two-run
homer to Richard Giannotti in the fifth that gave Miami a 2-1 lead.
Miami added an insurance run when Adam Ricks singled, advanced to third on a
sacrifice and a wild pitch and scored on Jim Burt's sacrifice fly.
The two teams combined for just 13 hits, a day after posting 15 runs and 26
hits against each other's aces.
The Hurricanes haven't lost a postseason tournament at Mark Light Field
since the 1990 Atlantic Regional and improved to 12-3 all time in the
postseason against the Gators.
Miami also improved to 8-0 at home in super regionals.
