Freshman third baseman Harold Martinez, who enjoyed an excellent week behind the plate, has been named the Muscle Milk Student Athlete of the Week for the period ending April 5.
Martinez hit .500 (8-for-16) on the week, including a 7-for-12 performance against No. 23 Florida State in a three-game series last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Martinez, who had just two homers in 104 career at-bats coming into the weekend, smacked three homers against the Seminoles, picking up his first on Friday before hitting the next two in Sunday’s series-clinching win He went 3-for-5 with a grand slam, a solo homer, five RBI and two runs scored in UM's 14-8 win on Sunday. In the other series games, he had two three-hit games against FSU, going 3-for-4 on Friday with two doubles before his 3-for-5 day on Sunday ... On the week, Martinez led the Hurricanes in hits (8), homers (3) and total bases (19), in addition to tying for the team-lead in runs (7).
