Coral Gables, Fla... The University of Miami men's tennis team held an alumni reunion at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Sunday.

The current Hurricanes squad knocked off the alumni in a spirited round of play, 13-10.

The reunion was highlighted by the attendance of Hurricane tennis pioneer Gardnar Mulloy. A Miami native, Mulloy organized the first UM men's tennis team in 1935 and went on to great success as a tennis professional. Along with Bill Talbert, Mulloy won US Open doubles titles in 1942, 1945, 1946 and 1948, and was ranked among the world's top 10 in singles play for 14 years -- including a No. 1 world ranking in 1952.

Mulloy has been inducted into nine sports hall of fames, including the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1972.

"It was an exciting day," said Miami head coach Mario Rincon. "We want our alumni to stay close to our tennis program. We certainly want to continue the tradition and success that our former tennis players have worked so hard to build at UM."
