CORAL GABLES, Fla. - - The University of Miami women's soccer team was awarded the 2010-2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for their achievements off the pitch and in the classroom. The Canes listed the highest grade point average in the Atlantic Coast Conference, boasting a 3.29 overall team GPA.
Out of the 11 teams in the conference, seven others were awarded the honor. Both men's and women's teams qualify for the award, which is given to collegiate teams who boast a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. It was the eighth straight year of recognition for the Hurricanes, and ninth overall in the program's history.
In his first year as head coach at Miami, Tom Anagnost continued his history of working with student-athletes to reach levels of academic excellence. While head coach at Central Michigan University, the Chippewas finished with the top GPA in the nation for six straight seasons. They also won the Team Excellence Award (given to the Central Michigan team with the highest GPA) five years in a row.
