CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The No. 11 University of Miami women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over Florida Atlantic in its first dual meet of the season Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Hurricanes won all three doubles matches convincingly before UM took all six singles matches in straight sets to clinch the sweep over the Owls.

Laura Vallverdu and Romy Farah continued their dominant play early on this season, with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins over their respective opponents. In the No. 1 position, No. 29 Vallverdu was in control from the start of her match against Elodie Wendling and would eventually ease to her 12th win of the year while Farah picked up a quick win over Natalia Totevska in the No. 2 spot to give UM its first singles point of the day.

In the No. 3 spot, Bianca Eichkorn won the first set over Danielle Simone, 6-2, before taking six straight games for the 6-2, 6-0 win while Michaela Kissell won 6-1, 6-1 over Virginia Augustin in the No. 4 position.

Caren Seenauth and Gina Sabatino each won 6-1, 6-0 with Seenauth beating Virginia Augustin in the No. 5 position and Sabatino earning the match-clinching victory over Hannah Findlay in the sixth spot.

"Today was a great start for us," head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. "Our players set goals for themselves prior to the match and they were able to meet those goals today. It was nice to see."

The win marks the 22nd straight season UM opened its season with a victory. FAU, meanwhile, drops to 0-3 on the season with losses to Illinois, No. 29 USF and the 11th-ranked `Canes.
