TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -  The 24th-ranked University of Miami women's track and field team will have four individuals in the NCAA Outdoor National Championships, after strong performances in Saturday's East Region Championships at Mike Long Track on the campus of Florida State University.

With a total of 37 points, Miami finished sixth in the region, with ACC foe Virginia Tech taking the East Region crown with 92 points.

The Hurricanes sent two freshmen to the regional tournament in the 400-meter hurdles, and now those two will be traveling to Des Moines, Iowa to participate in the NCAA National Championships, June 11-14.  Takecia Jameson shaved nearly two seconds off her season-best time to take second in Saturday's final, with a time of 56.60.  Her teammate Ti'erra Brown finished right behind her in third place at 56.98.

Junior high jumper Viktoria Adonova guaranteed herself a spot in the NCAA National Championships with a second place finish Saturday.  After hitting a mark of 1.75m for seven consecutive weeks, Andonova reached 1.81m, her season-best.

After yesterday's disappointing finish in the discus, senior Khadija Talley recorded a personal-best in the shot put, ensuring herself a trip to the National Championships.  Her mark of 17.02 was good for second place in the region and beat her previous season-best by nearly two meters.

Junior Krista Simkins, the NCAA Indoor National Champion in the 400-meters, was unable to automatically qualify for the outdoor national championships, finishing eighth with a time of 55.29.  However, the four-time All-American could receive an at-large bid with her 17th-ranked national time in the event.

"As a team, we were aiming for a top-five finish, so we are a little disappointed that we didn't reach our goal,"  said head coach Amy Deem.  "But I am glad to see that some of the kids rebounded with personal and season-best times.  That's what  we are looking for, this time of the year."

With a time of 45.11, the 4x100 relay team of Tara Thomas, Kristy Whyte, Charlene Fuller and Simkins placed seventh, with Florida, South Carolina and Charlotte earning bids to the national championship.

In the other relay the 4x400, Miam's quartet of Kristy Whyte, Tameka and Takecia Jameson and Ena Leufroy ran a season-best 3:33.44 and finished fifth overall.

Deem added, "I am extremely proud of the 4x400 team.  I thought they ran a very tough race and hopefully, they will receive an at large bid."

Deandra Doyley participated in her second event in as many days with a 15th place finish in the triple jump.  Her mark of 12.46 set a new personal-best for the sophomore.

The Hurricanes have four guaranteed spots in the NCAA National Championships that will take place on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, with a chance at some at large bids as well, that will be announced later in the week.
